I really like the point about having to push yourself past self doubt and moving forward after failure.  Alot of clients we see have alot of self doubt and have experienced alot of rejection and failure in their job/career search. It is nice to…

This video is concise, to the point and so true. It really is simple - have passion with what you do, push yourself and do it for others - the success and satisfaction will come!

Business plans on one-page

Thumbnail
I’ve noticed there’s one piece of advice that’s commonly given to the fledgling entrepreneur: “You must write a business plan. And it’s true, you should. But, it seems so foreign and daunting, such a big task for someone who is just starting out.   A business plan is a formal statement of a set of business goals, the reasons why they are believed attainable, and the plan for reaching those goals. So, the business plan is an important tool to focus your energies and stay on track for building…See More

Hi Lucille-thanks for your question. I noticed on your profile you want to own a retail vintage clothing store. A lot of startups get their first funding from friends and family. The advantage of raising money from friends and family is that…

Grow your business via email

Whoa-I’m not suggesting you blanket your address book with your product or service promotions. Or that your purchase a mailing list from another company. Most recipients of this type of email will quickly trash this kind of advertising or it’s sent to the spam or junk mail folder.

E-mail is a simple way to keep in touch with people and potentially, an easy way to develop a network of loyal customers. So, include a strategy for permission-based emailing in your marketing plan and make… Continue

Hi Susan: I'm glad to be aboard the project. I have been so busy lining up the conference call for next week that I haven't been able to explore the platform as yet but we will be looking at it as a team this afternoon and loading up some Labour Market Information on youth employment issues.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your interest in the Y2E - Linking Youth to Employers Project. The Greater Halifax Partnership's Y2E Project is a 12-month research project to develop a framework that will make the business connection between priority youth and employers in Greater Halifax. Working with business, youth, service providers, job developers, government departments, and educators we have been researching employability barriers, and reviewing youth employment best practices, tools, and solutions that bridge the gap between youth and employers.

Over the past eight months, we have held numerous interviews and group consultations and conducted surveys with each stakeholder group to determine the essential elements for the framework.

We are now ready to present models and a variety of tools to stakeholders to review, discuss and provide their feedback. This will take place on June 25 & 26 at the Tri-World Café event. We will present three youth employment models and a variety of tools/services that will help all stakeholder groups – youth, employers and service providers - better connect priority youth with employment opportunities. This event will lead us to develop one recommended youth employment model for Greater Halifax as well as an implementation plan.

If you're interested in reading more about the project and our findings to date, please take a look at our reports at www.greaterhalifax.com/y2e. We just posted our Interim Report which includes primary and secondary research findings.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

All the Best, Krista

Hello Susan Kachmar, when you asked if there was anything I wanted to bring up or discuss. Well I was just wondering why doesn't the government or news talk about the global deficet? It must be extremly high and therefore only bad things can happen, so I wonder why nobody seems to bring it up.

Hey Susan. Thanks for asking but I have not heard back from anyone yet. I've also been applying to stores and businesses in my area, so hopefully I'll hear back from someone soon!

Hello Susan, Thank You For Asking I'm Currently Laid Off From My Job In Alberta, So I'm Currently Collecting Unemployment, It Does Suck Though That The Job Industry Not Only In Ontario But All Over Canada Has Slowed Down. I Believe The Government Should Just Give A Million To Every Person Over 60 And Force Them To Retire It Would Ultimately Solve Every Problem.

Susan,

I haven't had a tonne of time to browse the sight but I see that some other professionals have been posting and that is great, the discussion seems light but could be fruitful. I enjoy discussing strategies for working with our youth, how professionals can help other by helping themselves (that 'work/life' balance stuff we're always talking about). I feel as though the recession has created a real demand at my agency for our services but we need to remember as professionals that we still need to take care of ourselves in order to effectively connect with our clients ans serve their interests.

Ohio baby! but I'm a Canadian citizen here on a student visa. I can only work on-campus. I try not to over-reach in my thinking. Sure it's bad but that's all I generally notice. It seems really way above me, so I focus more on my own little life...you know?
